Nasal Snuff: A Better Alternative [27 Jun 2005|06:49pm]
[ mood | curious ]

John Mills & Sir Alec Guinness in Great Expectations.

I just recently watched David Lean's film adaptations of Dickens' Great Expectations & Oliver Twist. The costuming and sets of these films are delightful; boths films are masterpieces. They also included the common practice of Dickens' time called 'snuff taking'. I remember seeing snuff boxes at antique stores as well as reading about it in other 19th century novels.

I decided to look it up, just out of curiosity. I have learned that is a finely ground tobacco leaf, taken in the most unoffensive way of a pinch of the powder to the nose. It is also the most safest form of tobacco intake. I believe that if all cigarette smokers were to convert to nasal snuff, the world would be a better place.
